CHAPTER TWELVE
Reed laughed. âYouâre sleeping in the doghouse tonight, Dom!â
âShut the fuck up.â Dominic placed another piece of wood into the fire while trying to hide just how bothered he was.
He was royally screwing everything up between him and Camilla, and there wasnât a thing he could do about it. He knew heâd been acting like a jerk. The idea of leaving their little bubble where heâd felt normal again freaked him out. Everything had been perfect after almost a year of trying to keep his head afloat.
Maybe it was the PTSD that flared at the idea of yet another change of scenery and another group dynamics in just a few days time. Or maybe he was just angry with himself for feeling his old habits creeping up on him while heâd hoped that Camilla had magically cured him.
He needed to face the facts and accept that he still wasnât okay even though he was happier than heâd been in a long time.
âYouâd better talk to Adi, Dom. Iâm not taking it kindly that youâve upset my girl,â Jack said.
Dominic pulled a brow. âYour girl, eh?â
He saw that shit coming from a mile away. Well, good for him. Jack seemed happy with Adela and she would probably be a great fit for him. Dominic understood how Adela got a bit iffy with him after his remark about them having the time of their lives. He would talk to her tomorrow.
âThatâs right. And one other thing⦠Adi is right about you coming back, slinging your dick around like youâre the top dog. Weâre all in this together and I would appreciate it if youâd turn back the asshole-switchâjust a notch.â
âAmen,â Zane said.
Like always, Zane had Jackâs back and vice versa. Since Zane's father took Jack in after he was orphaned, they were almost inseparable.
Dominic took his friends in as he leaned back in the sand. They were right. Of course they were. He thought back to his counselorâs words, about needing to let people in.
Dominic had just experienced a mayor break through with Camilla and heâd figured to be done. He should have known that he needed to keep working on himself.
He decided that he would work on opening up to his friends. He needed to work at his own pace, though, so he wouldnât burn any more bridges by acting like an asshole in the meantime.
âSure. Whatever. Iâm not trying to make things awkward between any of us. Maybe tomorrow we can set up an extra camp on a beach nearby, so we have a spot to cool off when people get on each otherâs nerves?â Dominic said.
âThatâs a great idea, but Iâm not doing that tomorrow,â Reed said.
âWhy?â Dominic sighed while pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger. He felt in every fiber of his being that he needed room to breathe. He had been voluntarily cooped up in his apartment for weeks before going out to this stupid bachelor celebration weekend. And now
